Whole Genome Sequencing Shows that African Swine Fever Virus Genotype IX Is Still Circulating in Domestic Pigs in All Regions of Uganda

چکیده

Blood samples were collected from pigs at six abattoirs in the Kampala, Uganda metropolitan area May 2021 through June 2022, and tested for African swine fever virus. Thirty-one with cycle threshold values < 26 different geographic origins, clinical pathologic signs, Ornithodoros moubata exposure underwent whole genome sequencing. The p72 gene was used to genotype isolates, all found be IX; sequences previous IX isolates confirmed their similarity. Six of had enough coverage evaluate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Five differed historic regional but similar SNPs one another, sixth isolate also other five even though they are IX. Whole sequencing data provide additional detail on viral evolution that can useful molecular epidemiology, understanding impact changes genes disease phenotypes, may needed vaccine targeting should a commercial become available. More virus is understand how when changing.

African Swine Fever Virus p72 Genotype IX in Domestic Pigs, Congo, 2009

African swine fever virus p72 genotype IX, associated with outbreaks in eastern Africa, is cocirculating in the Republic of the Congo with West African genotype I. Data suggest that viruses from eastern Africa are moving into western Africa, increasing the threat of outbreaks caused by novel viruses in this region.

Prevalence of African swine fever virus in apparently healthy domestic pigs in Uganda

BACKGROUND African swine fever (ASF) is a contagious viral disease which can cause up to 100% mortality among domestic pigs leading to serious socio-economic impact on people's livelihoods. ASF is endemic in Uganda and there is paucity of information on the epidemiology of the disease. The major aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence and prevalence of African swine fever virus (A...

African Swine Fever: pathogenicity African Swine Fever: pathogenicity The pathogenicity of two groups of African swine fever virus isolates from Cameroon in domestic Pigs

In a previous study on the restriction enzyme analysis of genomes of ASFV isolates from Cameroon (8) it was shown that there are probably two genetically very closely related virus groups persisting within the pig population in the country; one group consists of the CAM/82, CAM/85 CAM/87 and CAM/88 ASFV isolates while the other includes the CAM/86 isolate only. The main differences between the ...

Drivers and risk factors for circulating African swine fever virus in Uganda, 2012-2013.

We explored observed risk factors and drivers of infection possibly associated with African swine fever (ASF) epidemiology in Uganda. Representative sub-populations of pig farms and statistics were used in a case-control model. Indiscriminate disposal of pig viscera and waste materials after slaughter, including on open refuse dumps, farm-gate buyers collecting pigs and pig products from within...

A nonessential African swine fever virus gene UK is a significant virulence determinant in domestic swine.

Sequence analysis of the right variable genomic region of the pathogenic African swine fever virus (ASFV) isolate E70 revealed a novel gene, UK, that is immediately upstream from the previously described ASFV virulence-associated gene NL-S (L. Zsak, Z. Lu, G. F. Kutish, J. G. Neilan, and D. L. Rock, J. Virol. 70:8865-8871, 1996). UK, transcriptionally oriented toward the right end of the genome...
